Healthy At Home Facebook Live Series

Susan G. Komen Maryland hosts a series of Facebook Live videos designed to offer support, education and comfort to our community as they shelter at home during the COVID-19 global pandemic. Though we are apart, we are not alone, and these events offer an opportunity to come together virtually and ask questions, get advice from experts and feel more connected. Join us for the latest episode of our “Healthy at Home” Facebook Live series when we welcome breast cancer survivor and activist Ricki Fairley. She will discuss her breast cancer journey and how the disease poses unique challenges for the Black community.

As a Stage 3A Triple Negative Breast Cancer Survivor/Thriver, Ricki Fairley’s personal purpose, passion, mission, ministry and blessing is to raise awareness, fundraise for a cure for breast cancer and support and coach what she calls her “Breastie” sisters through their breast cancer experience. Ricki recently founded Touch, The Black Breast Cancer Alliance to address Black Breast Cancer as a unique and special disease state, with the overall goal of reducing the mortality rate for Black women. Join us on July 25 at 3 pm for the latest in our Komen Maryland “Healthy at Home” Facebook Live series, “Cooking with Wow” with Chef Brian Thornton and Stephen Wecker of Cured and 18th & 21st in Columbia. With more than 30 years of culinary expertise in the D.C. region, Chef Thorton will share how you can get the “Wow Effect” seen in his restaurant presentations. Join us for the next episode of our “Healthy at Home” Facebook Live series, “From the Forest to Your Kitchen,” May 26, 4 pm, with Chris Amendola, the Executive Chef at foraged eatery in Baltimore. Chef Amendola has a long list of distinguished culinary credentials from up and down the east coast. When he is not behind the stove at Foraged, he is out in the woods looking for a new ingredient to cook with. He utilizes hyper-seasonal ingredients for a modern American style of cooking. Get moving with Kelly Serpico, a professional Zumba Instructor and designated leader to kick off our 2020 Delmarva More Than Pink Walk. The Walk was scheduled for Saturday, April 25, 2020 in Ocean City, Maryland and our team is currently working with the town to reschedule this walk this fall. In the meantime, let’s meet up online and join Kelly for a special FaceTime Live Zumba party Saturday, April 25 at 9:00 a.m. on our Facebook page. Live from Every1Fitness in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Kelly will teach a 60 minute Zumba Class to bring us together virtually for some fun and exercise. We hope to see you there! Join Susan G. Komen Maryland in partnership with Advanced Radiology for a Facebook Live Event, Tues, April 21, 12:30-1 PM to learn about breast cancer screening and diagnosis in the time of COVID-19. We are still taking care of our breast cancer patients, while mitigating risks. While the sequence of treatment may change in certain instances, in no way is patient care being compromised. Guest Speaker: Stacey Keen, MD, FACR Diagnostic Radiologist at Advanced Radiology in Baltimore, Maryland.
